KARLOVY VARY (CARLSBAD)(jump to Treatment Packages) The best known and the largest spa in the Czech republic dates back to around 1350. The Roman Emperor and Czech King Charles IV raised its status to a town in 1370. The end of the 19th century defined the architecture of Karlovy Vary. The city's best-known sights are the Church of St. Andrew, the orthodox Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, the Municipal Theatre, the Mill Colonnade (Mlynska kolonada) and the Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene. Karlovy Vary is surrounded by romantic hilly countryside – the foothills of Krušné hory. Treatment The fame of Karlovy Vary has spread to the whole world thanks to its mineral springs. There are 12 healing springs in the spa. Their basic compositions are similar but they differ in temperature and the amount of carbon dioxide, and that is why their effects are different as well. The colder springs usually have a slightly purgative effect, while the warmer ones make the production of bile and stomach juices slower. The strongest is the Vridlo spring, rising from the depth of 2,000-3,000 metres. Karlovy Vary springs temperature reaches varies from 30° C to 73° C. These are used in treatments of diseases of the circulatory system, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory diseases & locomotive system diseases.

MARIANSKE LAZNE (MARIENBAD) Marianske Lazne is situated in a picturesque valley on the wooded slopes of the Slavkovsky forest area, 628 meters above sea level. The spa owes its popularity to its attractive layout, quality natural sources and numerous springs (there are no fewer than forty in the spa town itself), as well as its excellent medical success rate. A local peculiarity is a dry source of carbon dioxide. FRANTISKOVY LAZNE (FRANZENBAD) Frantiskovy Lazne sits on a mountain plateau with a wooded park, 450 meters above sea level. The park, covering an area of 200 hectares, combines with classical architecture and an absence of industrial pollution or urban traffic makes the town a jewel among Czech spas. Natural healing source Strongly alkaline acidulous mineral waters as well as sulphite/ferrous mud; there are 24 springs in the spa town itself, of which 12 are used for tub baths, inhalations, and a drinking cure. TEPLICE The town is situated in the hollow between Krusne Hory and Ceske Stredohori. It belongs to the oldest as well as the most modern spas in Europe. Healing springs in the Teplice valley were probably known already 2 000 years ago, which is proved by the archaeological finds of Roman coins in Pravridlo and the finds of Celtic coins and jewels from the beginning of our epoch in Obri Pramen near Duchcov. The old habit, known already in the Classical Greece and Rome, to show one’s gratitude to healing power of mineral springs by throwing coins or other gifts into the spring, brought the confirmation of the fact that these springs are one of the oldest and most intensively used ones in Europe. The historic records from the early Middle Ages mention settlements of Slavic inhabitants and foundation of the Benedictine monastery of St. John the Baptist by Queen Judith. PODEBRADY In the 15th century King George raised the status of the town of Podebrady to the royal town. Already in the 17th century on one healing spring a small spa was built. The recent history of the town and spas has its beginning in the period of Art Nouveau, when another strong mineral spring was discovered. The spring contains a lot of carbonic acid, magnesium and calcium. The spa centre is hidden in the green of the parks. Flat area near the river Labe surrounded by forests is ideal for the treatment of heart diseases. The town is also famous with the production of crystal plumbic glass. Romantic environment is suitable for relaxation as well as active tourism. Treatment The natural healing source is mineral carbonic water.
